Community/Outreach
By sharing resources between the two universities, the Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University brings to both universities and the surrounding communities a number of initiatives designed to foster interest in Latin America and the Caribbean among students, faculty, and local citizens. We are one of the 18 Title VI National Resource Centers in Latin American Language and Area Studies funded by the US Department of Education.
The Outreach office administers a number of programs through the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Duke University. We work with local citizens throughout North Carolina to develop and make accessible educational resources regarding Latin America and the Caribbean. We especially focus on resources meaningful for K-16 teachers and students; members of media and business; and men, women, and children who live in our local communities. Outreach resources and activities include:
• Teacher workshops, curriculum development, & classroom presentations with K-12 public schools and post-secondary education.
• The Annual Latin American Film Festival
• Outreach to business and media
• The Lending Library
• Exhibits
Our website is currently under development. For more information about specific outreach initiatives, see the Duke/UNC Consortium home page OR contact the Outreach Program Coordinator, LeAnne Disla, at leanne.disla@duke.edu
