For Graduate Students

Graduate Certificates | Working Groups | Yucatec Maya | Funding

CLACS offers many academic opportunities for Duke Graduate students.  First, although no degrees in Latin American and Caribbean Studies are offered at Duke, CLACS offers a certificate option to Duke Graduate Students.  The Graduate Certificate in Latin American & Caribbean Studies is open to Master's and Ph.D. students in any graduate or professional school at Duke.

Graduate students are also encouraged to participate in the interdisciplinary working groups, which bring together students and faculty members from Duke and UNC to discuss a wide variety of topics throughout each academic year. Our Center welcomes proposals from graduate students to invite guest speakers or to organize other special events related to Latin America and the Caribbean. We are able to offer a limited amount of co-sponsorship for these initiatives. Requests should be submitted to the Associate Director Natalie Hartman at las@duke.edu

CLACS also offers a number of funding opportunities for Duke graduate students, including conference travel grants, field research grants and FLAS fellowships for language training, in programs such as the Yucatec Maya program administered by the UNC-Duke Consortium.

For more information on each of these opportunities, please click on the links above.
