For Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate Certificate
| DukeEngage
| Working Papers
Study Abroad | Yucatec Maya | Travel Grants
CLACS offers many interesting academic opportunities for Duke undergraduates. One option is to participate in the undergraduate certificate program. The certificate officially documents students' coursework focused on Latin America and/or the Caribbean, and complements work toward the regular major. Undergraduates also have the chance to get published before they leave Duke through the Mellon Undergraduate Working paper series. Students interested in travel can Study Abroad through Duke (Ecuador, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Brazil) or approved programs, apply for a travel grant through CLACS (such as the Mellon Undergraduate Awards for Summer Research), or participate in the summer Yucatec Maya language program. Starting in the summer of 2008, DukeEngage will also offer exciting civic engagement projects in Belize, Chile, Colombia, Guatemela, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago and the U.S. Mexico border region.
In addition to these programs, our center welcomes proposals from undergraduates to bring intellectuals, activists, artists, and musicians who work on Latin American and the Caribbean to Duke. We are able to offer a limited amount of co-sponsorship for guest speakers and special events. Requests should be submitted to the Academic Program Coordinator at las@duke.edu.
